Androgyny
These shoes.  My new favorite pair of shoes, no doubt.  When I saw them on my Zara app on my iPhone, I immediately posted them to Facebook to get everyone's opinion.  Either way, I knew ultimately that I had to have them!

I premiered these gold beauties at work this past weekend and got rave reviews from guests at work, as well as my co-workers.  My co-workers are used to my ever-changing style, and all they did was laugh and say, "Only you Kristin."  They liked the shoes though, but I kept getting called "Michael Jackson" for some reason..... lol.
I've been a big fan of the top bun lately.  It's super easy and looks so classy imo.
Maybe this is why people kept calling me Michael Jackson lol...

I'm off to a photo shoot this afternoon, where I will be modeling a vintage bridal dress.  It's gorgeous!  I posted a pic to twitter the other day, but I definitely will be sharing with you all proofs from the shoot!  I'm a little nervous and very excited. :)  This evening I'm being taken to see Esperanza Spalding in concert which will be the perfect ending to my eventful day!  It's crazy seeing her on campus just like any other normal Berklee student like myself, to viewing her on live television winning a Grammy, to watching her onstage tonight as the amazing, beautiful, and talented artist she has become!  Wow!

Photo Diary: 9/26/11
The trio, consisted of Sasha, Leilani, and myself always make Monday nights our night.  "Monday is the new Friday" Sasha always says, so we always plan to go out Monday nights to catch up from the weekend, the latest gossip, and ultimately to spend some time together in the midst of our busy schedules!

Sasha had an extra disposable camera, so we took it out and took some pics with it.  A handful didn't come out, but the ones that did you will be seeing shortly lol...

This is NOT an outfit post, just some fun pics I wanted to share... Enjoy!

Random picture of my kitty Akbar...
And the faces begin...
Girl talk!!!
Me looking like a ghost.  #overexposure
We're really great dancers... No, but we actually are lol.
Let me introduce you to this man.  We don't know his name, but we always run into him!  The first time we met him was at the very same bar we were at on this night by bumping into him on the dance floor gettin' it in his hospital scrubs.   Like he literally must've come straight from the hospital to the bar haha!
The next time we ran into him on the street, we said hello, and he had no idea who we were.  We then went on to explain the whole "scrubs in the club" scenario, and he was so embarrassed!  But on this night he was really going HAM on us for no reason!  He called Leilani Whitney Houston and started singing, "I Will Always Love You," and kept insulting me/telling me how beautiful I was.  It was all so strange!  He also was plotting to turn the bar we were at into a whore house, and wanted Sasha to be his business partner... *side eye*

I had convinced him and two inocent bystanders named "Chico" and "Carlito" that my name was Kristin Waka Flockawitz and told him I was half Jewish (of course they believed me).  But I eventually told them my alias was all a lie lol...  In situations like those, you gotta keep yourself laughing!
This is the only up to date picture of all of us smiling like normal people... I'm pretty sure...
Semi outfit pic!
What my nights out usually consist of... I'm not much of a drinker!  But I'm always tweeting about my adventures!

Hope you enjoyed the pics!

We will never forget.

Wearing a blazer + necklace from F21, Zara shorts,  and Rachel Roy heels.

Hey guys, it's been a long time.  Sorry for the lack of posting, life has truly been getting in the way of living these days.  I hope you all are doing well, and I expect to be regularly posting from here on out.  Thanks for your patience and sticking around!

I'd also like to say thank you to all of you whom leave comments on my posts.  I've recently received some of the most beautiful comments on my last post that literally warmed my heart and made my day.  Some of the nicest things I've read!  I truly love blogging and interacting with you all, and connecting with people from all over the country!  I appreciate all of you who stop by, whether you leave a comment or not!

Thank you!!!

“Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.”  -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Love,
Kris

P.S.  Happy first day of Fall!!!

When 1 +1 = 3.
First things first.

BEYONCE IS PREGNANT.

I'll give you a moment to take that in (actually, the moment is more so for me).
Bey dropped the great news on us yesterday evening during MTV's Video Music Awards.  I immediately started jumping up and down like a 5-year-old kid on Christmas Day while tweeting & screaming simultaneously in excitement with Leilani.  I then proceeded to call all my girlfriends in continuous screaming all the way through Gaga's opening act.  Oops.  Lol.

Bey's performance was flawless and she was glowing!

"I want you to feel the love that's growing inside of me!" -Beyonce

My heart literally melted when she spoke those words during her performance!  The cameras kept zooming in on Jay-Z in the audience and I've NEVER IN MY LIFE seen him SO joyful!  I couldn't stop smiling!  I was seriously holding back tears!

My photographer mom took the pics in this post.  Wearing a romper from F21.
A lot of my friends were texting me stating that I was the first person they thought of when they found out the news haha!  I hope it's a boy!!

Speaking of boys, they make up most of my best and worst dressed list.

Best Dressed: 1. Kid Cudi.  He was looking so fly with that black and gold vest!  Unfortunately, the only pic I could find doesn't do his 'fit justice! :( 2. Justin Bieber.  Besides the red hot pants and the leopard print sneakers, he was truly rockin that YSL pin on his blazer! #swag
Worst Dressed: 1. Drake lookin' like a chunky Swiss Roll.  That grandpa sweater was a fail.  It was ill-fitting too, and I found myself uncomfortably looking at him dressed like that smh.  Here is a video of him presenting (you can see the catastrophe in motion). 2. Nicki Minaj -______- #speechless

I did my own hair, and decided to try something new, so I flat twisted the sides then pinned up the back.  On the top I did a two-strand twist, bantu knot-out.  Sounds confusing huh lol?  Do you like it?

I found Kanye to be in a very humble, calm and collected mood which was nice to see (I am also a big fan of Kanye), and I overall enjoyed the VMA's this year.  Jay & Bey are such a powerhouse and so inspirational, it literally made my night.  I was a little confused by Gaga, and she actually started to scare me as she progressed in her role as a man (lookin like a broke off Ralph Macchio circa The Karate Kid).  Lei thought Tyler the Creator's (who won a moon man for Best New Artist) mom was wearing a catsuit which was confusing because she wasn't, and I almost fell off the couch when Tyler started Harlem Shaking on stage, then basically fell into a death dive right after.  However, Tyler's acceptance speech was a hot mess.  He stated he had a message for the kids, and as he started to recite this message, all you heard was Bleep! Bleep! Bleep! because he was cursing so much you had no idea what the message was!  Chris Brown's performance was unecessary and irrelevant.  The Amy Winehouse tribute was cool, but why Bruno Mars (although he performed well)?  I also shadily liked Miley Cyrus's Roberto Cavalli dress.  Not so much on her though...

What were your thoughts overall?

P.S. My thoughts and prayers are still going out to everyone affected by Hurricane Irene.  Luckily my family didn't experience any damage, but for people that have damage and power outages, you are in my prayers!

Annapolis
Wearing a dress from H&M, leopard belt and wallet from Target, earrings from f21, and Circa Joan and David leather heeled sandals.

Last Thursday I went on a mini vacation to Annapolis, MD with my mom, Sasha, her mom, our family friend Valerie, and me.  It was a girl's weekend/my mother's birthday celebration and we had A LOT of fun!  But unlike most vacations, we stayed at Valerie's son's condo instead of a hotel... Aka took over his condo/made him chauffeur us around for the entire weekend LOL.

If you don't know, Annapolis is a historic Navy town, and Valerie's son (Jujuan) is also in the Navy.  He took us around town and gave us a tour of the Naval Academy too!  It was Plebe Parents Weekend (Plebe's are the freshman class at the academy) and there were men/women in uniform everywhere!

I didn't know much about the Navy, or how they differed from the Army or Marines, so it was great having a personal tour guide who knew basically everything lol.  Sasha and I drilled Jujuan with questions the whole trip!

Did you know that they issue everything at the academy?  Regulated glasses, socks, shorts, pants, tops... They even cut your hair to your ears when you first enter the academy!!  My sense of fashionable expression would suffer GREATLY!  But as you get older, you get more privileges... Like wearing "civilian" clothing on the weekends.  I would work as hard as I could to get that one LOL!  "I want to do extra pushups, sir yes sir!"
Sasha chillin at the Kunta Kinte-Alex Hailey Memorial
Mommy :)
But honestly, I have so much more respect for the Navy and for all men/women in the service.  At the end of the trip, I seriously wanted to sign up for the Naval Academy!  I was so inspired!  Unfortunately,  you can't enter if you already have a bachelor's degree so my dream ended then lol.

Sunrise :)

Another day we went to the Plebe parade.  It was so intense.  The formations, the hits, the stances.  I LOVED IT ALL!  Sasha and I kept stating that we were waiting for Beyonce to appear from the sky and start performing in the middle of the Plebe's haha!

We were also looking for Tyrese the whole trip, since he was in that silly movie "Annapolis" (which I've actually never seen).  Yes, we have issues.
The band was killin.  Straight up.
The parade was a lot of fun, but it ended up raining on our parade, no pun intended!  So we sought cover until it calmed down a little (I got stuck walking in the pouring rain twice in one day, but Jujuan wasn't phased. He's such a Navy guy haha)!

Sasha and I ended up cracking his shell by the end of the trip.  Our craziness rubbed off on him (in a good way of course hehe).
Here's my lovely mother on her bday.  We ate dinner at Ruth Chris's Steakhouse.  It was delicious.  I went in and got a bone in rib eye.  It was delish!  I also had bread pudding with a scoop of ice cream on top for dessert.  It was SO good!
Don't we look alike? :)

The last night in town, Sasha and I met up with my friend Katrina and she took us to D.C. to a house party.  Sasha and I both forgot to take our cameras!  Katrina was looking so fly!  And so was everyone at this party!  It was great being surounded by artistic/fly/natural haired/cool peeps!  We had a good time, and it was so good to see you Kbello!

The whole trip was a blast and I could have honestly stayed a couple more days, not gonna lie.  I actually took a boat load of pics, but since I didn't upload them all on this post, I uploaded the whole album onto my Facebook Page.  Check it out!

Carmen
Well look who it is!  Yes I know I know, I've been MIA from the blogging-sphere for almost 3 weeks!  Eek!  Honestly, I needed a break.  I decided to take a brief internet hiatus simply because I felt like I was getting so wrapped up in it! Hey, it happens.

I haven't gone out in a good month, and have been regularly going to bed early/getting a good night's rest... Sometimes it's good to switch up from your normal day to day routine... My case seems to be the opposite of most, whereas instead of doing something sporadic or noteworthy, I just become a bigger homebody than I already was/get more sleep.  Basically I've become an old woman lol.

Another big factor in my hiatus is the fact that my best friend/photographer of this blog, Sasha, is moving to Europe.  Berlin, Germany to be exact.  She's been traveling the whole month throughout the states, so she hasn't been around, and she leaves for good at the end of the month for a whole year!  I'm pretty sad about it :(
I'll eventually get over it lol (I know I'm dramatic).  She's living her dream, and I'm so excited for her because she's so talented, and I plan to visit her while she's there!!
Wearing a H&M dress, H&M necklace, Sally Hansen polish in "Lightening," and Michael Kors wedges
My lovely mother, who happens to be an amazing photographer, has taken over the photography for my blog.  I'm so grateful for her!  Thanks Mom! lol

I was inspired by Dorothy Dandridge, more specifically by her role as "Carmen" in the1954 film Carmen Jones for this post.  I see pics of Dorothy Dandridge all over my dashboard via tumblr.  She was such a classy lady!

Also, I posted a new youtube video sharing some of my favorite products I've been using this whole summer!  Check it out below! :)

Keep living.

Dress from T. J. Maxx, Anthropologie sweater, Michele watch

You ever hear of the term "5-year plan" or "10-year plan?"  Well, I'm the queen of making plans.  Goals, guidelines, plans, lists, deadlines... I seem to always have them for every aspect of my life.  While it's good to have plans and goals, sometimes getting wrapped up in "following the plan" can cause a lot of stress, and could also close your mind to other possible opportunities that can equally give you experience for growth, even if it's in a field you never once considered working.

There's a phrase that goes something like, "If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans."  Although I've heard this a million times before, I still somehow make an attempt to map out basically my whole life!  I'll state that I'll be doing this by this age, or living there by that month, but I'm realizing that everything happens for a reason, and when it's time for me to be here or there, that's where I'll be.

Half of my heart is pulsing to the beat of New York City, but the other half of my heart is still home.  I want to go back to school, but now may not be the right time.  My point is, even if my life seems like a big ? right now, I have to keep living.  I may not be at the place I thought I'd be almost a year post graduating college, but as long as I keep living with a purpose, I truly believe I will get there someday.

As for some good news, I'll be working on some great music projects (that I was fortunately asked to be a part of), and will fill you guys in on it hopefully soon!

Remember guys, everyone dies, but not everyone lives!  Keep living!

-Kris

Independent.
Hey guys!  Do you see my summer glow?  I've been getting my sun on as much as possible.  The weather here has been beautiful (with the occasional random thunderstorms usually once every week lol), but besides that I am just enjoying summertime!  Can you believe it's already July?  Time is flying right past me!

I styled my hair in an afro by putting my hair in chunky two-strand twists left in overnight and picking
my hair out the next day.
Wearing a top from T.J. Maxx, Topshop skirt, vintage Art Deco piece circa 1970's London via my BFF Sasha, Rachel Roy gold chain heels, and my nail color is "Lickety-Split Lime" by Sally Hansen.
I am obsessing over this nail color.  I've been wearing it non-stop for 2 weeks straight!

I hope everyone enjoyed their 4th of July weekend, mine was low-key, but enjoyable nonetheless!

Have a great rest of the week!

Mama Nina's
You guys know how much I love food.
Well,  there's a restaurant in my town that a lot of my friends & co-workers were recommending for me to try called Mama Nina.

I had made plans with my cousin who lives in the area, and we both enjoy getting our grub on, so this worked out perfectly lol.
I had my mother snap some photos of my outfit.  It had been raining off and on all day, but it was still warm outside!

Don't worry, I'm wearing shorts underneath my blouse lol.
Wearing an American Apparel sheer blouse, BDG shorts, and Michael Kors creme patent leather wedges
Jewelry.
My cousin already knew the deal, he was just watching/making fun of me the whole time :p

Thankfully it wasn't raining by the time we got to the restaurant (because I wanted to sit outside), and we were luckily able to get seated right away!

The restaurant is located on the historic/downtown part of the city, and I always enjoy going down there for the scenery!

As soon as we got seated, we were immediately served with fresh garlic bread.  It was soooo yummy!
They also give you a complimentary glass of wine (I was unaware of this, so I brought my own, and there wasn't even a corkage fee)!

Ok, at this point I would suggest getting a glass of water before continuing to read this post.  Food pictures shortly following will most likely cause instant salivation.

Then the food came out...

I ordered the spaghetti and meat sauce with mushrooms.  Everything is made fresh to order, so you can really freestyle any dish!

Can't you just tell from the picture how thick & creamy that sauce was?  It was seriously straight cream.  It was so delicious!  Christian ordered the Angel Hair Gorgonzola. "Sauteed with baby lobster, shrimp, scallops, and jumbo lump crab meat in a vodka gorgonzola basil cream sauce."  I only had a few bites, but man oh man.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere and energy of Mama Nina, a real Mom & Pop type place.  The owner was pretty active with the customers the whole time we were dining.  Helping seat tables, boxing up food, greeting customers...  He was such a sweet older man, always smiling, and I made sure to tell him it was my first time dining there, and how I thought the food was fantastic!

I ate a good portion of my entree, and it didn't even look like I touched it when I was finished lol.  Of course I got it boxed up, and I actually finished the rest of it last night (a tear fell down my right eye with the last bite lol).  I  had asked to look at the dessert menu, but I knew better than to order anything haha!  I'll definitely be back!

-Kris

P.S.  I totally missed the season 4 premiere of True Blood last night, so I'm going to find it online and watch it asap!  How was it?  Does anyone watch TB?
